Nigeria’s minister of police affairs, Muhammad Dingyadi during an interview with Channels Television, disclosed that President Muhammadu Buhari will have the final say on the indictment of DCP Abba Kyari, suspended on working with Hushpuppi.
Recall that Usman Baba, inspector-general of police (IGP) set up a panel to investigate Kyari was allegedly accused of collaborating with the international fraudster, Ramon Abbas, aka Ray Hushpuppi.
Speaking during the interview, Dingyadi said after seeking Malami’s opinion, the report will be submitted to President Muhammadu Buhari for final consideration.
He said the international connotations of the scandal make it important to do consultations with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Justice before a final decision is taken.
“We have also reported that the committee has submitted the report to the IGP, and we have submitted this report and recommendations to the AGF for a legal opinion.”
“Thereafter, we will take it to Mr. President for final consideration. So, you can see that this matter is a local matter here; it also has some international connotations. So, we have to do some due diligence to ensure that we do the right thing.
“There has to be some consultation with the ministry of foreign affairs and ministry of justice before the final decision is taken,” He added.
Dingyadi said that the ministry is trying to be as transparent as possible in handling the sensitive matter.
Kyari who was the Head of the IGP Intelligence Response Team (IRT) has already been replaced by DCP Tunji Disu.
