A Body camera footage of a 13-year-old kid ‘Adam Toledo‘ has been released by the city’s Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA).
The video of the incident which happened on March 29th shows an officer chasing Toledo down a street. The officer yells, “Police! Stop. Stop right f–king now. Hands — show me your f–king hands now. Drop it!” As the officer tells Toledo to “drop it” again, Toledo turns toward the officer and appears to put his hands up, before the officer shoots the teen in the chest.
After the shooting, the officer begins searching Toledo’s body for a gunshot wound, asking “Where you shot man?” Toledo is visibly bleeding from his chest and mouth as the officer begins chest compressions and repeatedly tells Toledo to “stay with me.”
Other officers arrive then arrive on scene and tell Toledo to “stay awake” as they attempt live-saving measures.
He died as a result of the gunshot according to the Cook County medical examiner. Toledo’s family claims Chicago PD took two days to notify them of his death, and they think cops have been cagey about providing details, citing from TMZ report.
According to a report on ABC News, the Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney James Murphy has initially claimed that Toledo had a gun in his hands, However, Cook County State’s Attorney spokesperson Sarah Sinovic later told the publication that Murphy “failed to fully inform himself before speaking in court” and that “the video speaks for itself.”
