Buhari Accuse IPOB of Oil Theft, Ask Foreign Allies to treat them as Terrorist Organization

He accused the international communities of funding the separatist outfit through international financial networks

President Muhammadu Buhari has urged international countries to declare the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, as a terrorist organization after linking oil theft and pipeline sabotage to the group.

During an interview with Bloomberg, a U.S.-based media. Buhari said that IPOB’s vandalism and oil theft are to blame for Nigeria’s daily output quota deficit.

He accused the international communities of funding the separatist outfit through international financial networks.

“Criminality and terrorism in oil-producing regions hamper production, and it would help if our western allies designated IPOB as a terrorist group, given their complicity in damage to pipelines and infrastructure.

“We urge those same international partners to take additional steps costing them nothing, by proscribing another group – IPOB – as a terrorist organization.

“Their leadership enjoys a safe haven in the West, broadcasting hate speech into Nigeria from London, spending millions lobbying members of the US Congress, and freely using international financial networks to arm agitators on the ground. This must stop,” he said.

Buhari recalled that the country announced plans for a new gas pipeline between Nigeria and Europe four years ago.

“The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) entered into a deal with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) for its construction last week (2nd June) — in record time,” he continued.

“The Nigerian National Petroleum Business (NNPC) will become a limited liability company on July 1st, and will be subject to more stringent auditing and commercial disclosure standards.”

The president stated that the transition will aid in stimulating investment and increasing transparency, both of which have been hampered by corruption.
