President Muhammadu Buhari has submitted the names of seven people to the Senate for consideration as ministerial nominees.
The latest list confirms that Rotimi Amaechi, Ogbonnaya Onu, Godswill Akpabio, and Emeka Nwajiuba, who all resigned to pursue presidential campaigns, will not be returning to President Buhari’s cabinet.
The President transmitted the names of the candidates to the Senate in a letter.
On Tuesday, June 21, 2022, Senate President Ahmad Lawan read the request on the Senate floor in Abuja.
Buhari stated in the letter that the nominations would replace past cabinet members who had resigned.
In part, the letter stated, “In accordance with Section 8 Subsection 2 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended, I hereby forward the underlisted ministerial nominees for your confirmation.”
The nominees are Henry Ikechukwu – Abia State, Umana Okon Umana – Akwa-Ibom State; Ekuma Joseph – Ebonyi State; Goodluck Nana Obia – Imo State; Umar Ibrahim Yakub – Kano State; Ademola Adewole Adegorioye – Ondo State; Odo Udi – Rivers State.
The Senate is expected to screen the nominees and approve their appointment. The screening exercise, however, has yet to be scheduled.
