Nigeria songwriter, singer and artist Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu also known as Burna Boy has become the fifth Grammy Award Nominee from Nigeria. Burna Boy has in the last few years blown our minds with some great hits back to back.The Port Harcourt born carefree singer and songwriter, whose songs have won him international recognition rose to limelight in 2012 when he released his lead single, ‘Like to party' from his debut studio album, L.I.F.E.He was first signed to the Aritokrats in which he lunched his debut album On the 12th of August 2013. Aristokrats Records launched his debut studio album, L.I.F.E, which he dropped as a follow up for his mix tape, BURN IDENTITY which was released in 2011. It was reported that The L.I.F.E album sold a huge sum of 40,000 copies on the first day of its release. Aristokrats records later sold L.I.F.E marketing right to UBA SPECIFIC for a mouth-watering sum of N10 Million.The album which featured Nigerian artist like 2face, Wizkid, Olamide, Timaya, M.I and Reminisce, the album got him lots of local and international nominations and recognition.In 2015 Burna boy created his record label, Spaceship Entertainment after parting ways with the Aristocrats in 2014.His second album was later released on 25th November 2015 and later released his 7-trap EP Redemption with the lead single ‘Pree Me', which was debuted on Noisey in September 2016.In 2017, Burna boy signed with a United State music group "Bad Habits/Atlantic Records".On January 26, 2018, Burna dropped his third album ‘Outside’, it was described as a mix-tape of Afro beats, dance-hall, reggae and road map. Great vocals from English best musicians were also featured in the album, including J Hus, Lily Allen and Mabel.The Album won best album of the year at the 2018 Nigeria Entertainment Award while the album biggest hit single, “Ye” became the biggest hit single of 2018.Burna boy seems to be having an endless successful music career as he bags four awards at the Sound City MVP Awards including African Artiste of the year, listeners choice and best male MVP.Still accumulating his winning streaks ahead of Davido and Wizkid, Burna boy on the 24th of June, 2019 won Best International Act at the 2019 BET Awards.
Sweeping all off their feet with his album 'African Giant' which was released on the 26th of July 2019. Included in the album were six singles; “On the low”, “Dangote”, “Killin Dem”, “Pull up” and “Anybody”, which has become one of the most played songs of 2019.He started compiling the album since 2018 and revealed his plan to release the album in April 2019 but all he did was to hold a private listening session in Los Angeles.Hitting the hallmark of his career, the first of its kind in the continent of Africa, Burns boy's album, “African Giant” has been nominated for a Grammy award as the Best World Music Album beating the popular star boy, Wizkid and DMW Boss, Davido.
