Businessman gets two years for insulting Adamawa governor


A businessman who insulted Adamawa State governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, by calling him the ‘father of all thieves’ has been found guilty of defamation.

In a series of Facebook posts last month, Ali Yakubu Numan accused the governor of stealing billions of naira from the state.

On Wednesday, August 12, a Yola Chief Magistrate Court II, Numan was found guilty of using abusive language against the governor, and disturbance of public peace after two witnesses testified against him before the court.

Japhet Basani the Presiding magistrate sentenced him to two and a half years in prison with the option of an N50,000 fine.

Also, Basani sentence Numan to six-month imprisonment, without the option of a fine, for the second charge against him, in a judgment delivered on Wednesday, August 11, 2021.
