Chelsea fc have completed the signing of 28 year old Senegalese goalkeeper Eduoard Mendy from French club side Rennes on a 5 year deal.
The blues who had battled a goalkeeping problem since last season hope the former Rennes shot-stopper would provide panacea to their goalpost crises.
Kepa Arrizabalaga’s loss of form coupled with Willy Caballero’s lack of adequate competence led to the club to hunt for a replacement, an effort which was immensely rewarded with the arrival of Eduoard Mendy.
Chelsea disclosed via their official website Chelseafc.com that the goalkeeper who is the club’s seventh senior signing of the summer costs a deal worth £22 Million.
Speaking on the latest signing, Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia lauded the influence of former goalkeeper Petr Cech in the signing.
“As soon as Petr Cech and our technical team identified Edouard as the most suitable goalkeeper to complement our existing group, there was only one player we wanted to bring in.
“Edouard arrives following a season of real success with Rennes, he is ambitious for more, and we welcome him to our club.”
Eduoard Mendy is set to make his Chelsea debut on Saturday against West Brom. The Senegalese revealed he is excited to play for the club of his dreams.
“I am so excited to be joining Chelsea,” said Mendy to the official Chelsea website. “It’s a dream for me to be a part of this exciting squad and to work with Frank Lampard and all of his coaching staff.
I look forward to meeting my team-mates and can’t wait to get started.”
