Conor McGregor lost to Dustin Poirier after suffering a broken lower tibia


The UFC 264 tournament in Las Vegas had an unexpectedly quick end after Irish superstar Conor McGregor was badly injured his ankle and lost the TKO to American Dustin Poirier.

The fight was officially ruled as a “doctor’s stoppage” after McGregor’s ankle rolled over as he swung and missed a punch then stumbled just before round one was about to end. The fight was stopped and doctors were brought in and ultimately Poirier was handed a second win in their trilogy.

“This is not the end,” McGregor shouted in the cage before leaving the hall on a stretcher. He will undergo surgery today. According to promoter Dany White, he should get a chance to retaliate with Poirier when he recovers.

McGregor now has a balance of 22 wins and six defeats. Poirier of the same age scored 28th victory, losing six matches.
