The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reportedly arrested a former governor of Imo state, Senator Rochas Okorocha over corruption.
The cable report that the current senator was arrested from his house in Abuja at about 3 pm and was taken to the EFCC office.
According to reports, Mr. Okorocha had earlier been invited by the EFCC over alleged money laundering charges however, failed to grant the invitation.
Okorocha, who governed Imo from 2011 to 2019, had been accused by the state government of various corrupt practices including diversion of public funds — although he has denied any wrongdoing.
Wilson Uwujaren, the spokesperson of the EFCC confirmed the development. He said Okorocha was in the custody of the commission.
“Okorocha has been arrested by our men”, the EFCC spokesperson said.
