The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has placed governor Willie Obiano of Anambra state on its watchlist.
According to a letter dated November 15 and addressed to the comptroller-general of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), the anti-graft agency asked to be informed whenever Obiano is seen attempting to travel out of the country.
This came months before Obiano is expected to leave office as governor.
It is not clear why the EFCC placed Obiano on its watchlist, however, according to reports, the Anambra governor is being investigated by the commission.
Channels TV quoting from source reported that the EFCC might have been hinted that the governor plans to escape after handing over power to his successor, Prof Charles Soludo.
The commission also asked NIS to inform it anytime Obiano is traveling out of the country from any of the international airports and other points of entry and exit.
