Elon Musk allegedly had a romantic relationship with the wife of Google co-founder Sergey Brin, a long-time friend and Tesla investor.
The two entrepreneurs were formerly close friends, but the affair ended their friendship, the Journal reported.
Brin and Shanahan were separated but still living together at the time of the affair, which allegedly began in December 2021 during Art Basel in Miami, according to a person close to her told the journal.
Brin, who married Shanahan in 2018, filed for divorce in January, alleging “irreconcilable differences,” the Journal claimed, a few weeks after discovering the affair.
Tensions between the two men and their teams have risen in recent months, according to people familiar with the case who talked to the Wall Street Journal.
At a party earlier this year, sources told the Journal, Musk has begged Brin for forgiveness. However, relations between the world’s richest man and the world’s tenth-richest man remain icy.
Musk and Brin have been pals for a long time, with Musk apparently frequently overnight at Brin’s Silicon Valley house. Brin, who is worth $95 billion, is also said to have invested $500,000 in Tesla during the 2008 financial crisis when the automaker was battling manufacturing challenges.
The alleged romance comes at a difficult moment for Elon Musk, the founder and CEO of Tesla and SpaceX.
Twitter sued Musk earlier this month to finish his intended $44 billion purchase of the social media network after Musk notified Social media company that he was terminating the deal to buy the firm.
Meanwhile, Brin and Shanahan, his second wife and the mother of their 3-year-old, are locked in divorce talks, with her demanding $1 billion from his $90 billion wealth.
