The peaceful protests in Aba against the #EndSARS turned bloody as thugs battle soldiers in a gun duel at Omoba road, Aba. Videos from the scene shows members of both the Nigerian Army and Navy attempting to confront the protesters but fled as the thugs ruthlessly attacked.
The youths in Aba kicked off their protests two weeks ago lamenting the brutal treatment received from the Special Anti Robbery Squad, victims recalled incidents of molestation, extortion, abuse and in some cases unlawful execution by SARS operatives. Reports reveals that every young Nigerian in possession of items like iPhones, expensive outfits, cars etc might find himself labelled a criminal and subsequently victimized.
Some protesters escalated their grievances to a violent level when they were confronted by the military on Tuesday 20 October 2020. The Nigerian Army aided by the Navy waded into the protests and tried to disperse the protesters during their march along Omoba road in Aba. The armed thugs engaged the soldiers in a gun battle, driving the soldiers back and some soldiers were reportedly killed. Rumours have it that the protesters went as far as setting a nearby police station ablaze.
