The Football Association (FA) has reportedly launched an investigation after a clip emerged showing one of Chelsea’s January signings using a racial slur in a TikTok video.
The FA is reportedly looking into a video that has been circulating on social media that appears to show Ukrainian winger Mykhaylo Mudryk using the N-word.
The player’s representative reportedly said that the 22-year-old sincerely sorry offending anyone with the video, which was reportedly uploaded to TikTok last year.
In the viral video, which has been viewed more than 200 000 times online and has since been taken down, Mudryk is heard using the obscene slur while reciting a song by well-known hip-hop singer Lil Baby.
Football anti-racism group Kick It Out denounced the new Chelsea star’s behavior in the video, claiming that racial slurs are unacceptable and offensive “irrespective of context”.
“Kick It Out condemns the use of all racial slurs, including the N-word irrespective of context,” the organisation said in a statement, according to the Daily Mail.
“The N-word is deeply offensive, and the use of this term by high-profile figures in football can only serve to alienate people from the game.
“It is important that footballers use their significant platform in a positive way, and we’re encouraged to see that Mykhaylo Mudryk has acknowledged the hurt caused by his use of this offensive slur.”
Mudryk recently signed a long-term contract with the Blues after leaving Shakhtar Donetsk earlier in the January transfer window.
