The Federal Government has confirmed the purchase of vehicles worth N1.4 billion to assist Niger in combating insecurity.
The Minister of Finance, Budget, and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, confirmed the purchase on Wednesday, adding that offering assistance to neighboring Niger Republic is not new and that the purchase was approved by President Muhammadu Buhari.
According to her, President Buhari, whose acts she cannot dispute, has the authority to appraise circumstances and issue orders as he sees fit.
She noted that the financial assistance, which is largely for the aim of improving the ability to safeguard their territory and is being provided in response to a request from the Nigerien government, is also in the best interests of the country.
The minister, speaking following the President’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, reacted to queries about papers posted on social media showing that the president approved the flow of funding for the Niger Republic on February 22, 2022.
