At least two security operatives were killed and 240 inmates freed as armed gang attacked Kabba Correctional Centre in Kogi state.
According to a Vanguard report, the gunmen in number storm the prison center on Sunday night, and the attack lasted through Monday morning.
The news outlet also said that attackers also killed the military men keeping a guide on the road.
The Nigerian Correctional Service spokesperson, Francis Enobore confirmed the incident, said in a statement on Monday, September 13, 2021, that the gunmen ‘heavily armed’ engaged in a gunfight with security operatives at the center.
He assured that authorities are already on the hunt to immediately recover the inmates that escaped.
Many of the escapee held at the correctional center has not been arraigned in court, The cable reports.
