Justin Lin quit Fast X after a ‘major disagreement’ with Vin Diesel

Fast & Furious fans were shocked last week when it was reported that Justin Lin, the director of Fast X, would be stepping down just days into filming.

Lin stated in a social media post last Tuesday (April 26) that he was stepping down as director of the tenth instalment of The Fast And Furious franchise only days after filming began. Lin, who has helmed five films in the franchise, will continue to act as a producer.

According to reports, Lin’s decision to leave the franchise was motivated by a “major disagreement” with lead star and producer Vin Diesel. THR has published a fresh report that sheds some light on why Lin quit. Simply put, he’d had enough of the continuously changing screenplay and having to deal with Vin Diesel.

The issue, according to the outlet, was about the altering script. Lin was in charge of scripting the tenth instalment and thought he had a full story before it went into production, but Universal and Diesel had ” different thoughts.”

Following Lin’s exit, production on Fast X was halted. According to Variety, Louis Leterrier (The Incredible Hulk, Transporter) is likely to take over as director on the project, though no formal announcement has been made.

Fast X will star Jason Momoa, Brie Larson, Charlize Theron, and Cardi B, as well as Diesel, Ludacris, Michelle Rodriguez, Nathalie Emmanuel, and Jason Statham. The film will be released on May 19, 2023.
