Two days after the five-time NBA champion died in a helicopter crash along with his daughter Gianna, Nike announced that its online store sold out of Kobe Bryant shoes.

When searching for Bryant merchandise on Nike’s online store, customers are redirected to a company statement on his impact on basketball and beyond. 

“We extend our deepest sympathies to those closest to Kobe, especially his family and friends,”.

“He was one of the greatest athletes of his generation and has had an immeasurable impact on the world of sports and the community of basketball. He was a beloved member of the Nike family. We will miss him greatly. Mamba forever,” Nike said in a statement.

A Nike spokesman said on Tuesday that the NBA Legend merchandise had sold out and clarified the company didn’t remove Kobe Bryant products or ask retailers to send them back. Several media outlets earlier reported Nike pulled the items to thwart buyers seeking to resell them at higher prices.

Kobe Bryant has been one of Nike’s biggest basketball stars after it signed him to an endorsement contract in 2003. Even after his 2016 retirement from the NBA, Nike continued to release signature Kobe sneakers.
