The shoes are associated with Lil Nas X’s recent music video ‘Montero (Call Me By Your Name)’ where he was unabashedly queer.
In the video, he pole-danced to hell and gave the devil a provocative lap dance before snapping the devil’s neck and claiming his horn.
Nike distanced itself from the shoe design, claiming that the brand is not in any way affiliate.
“We do not have a relationship with Little Nas X or MSCHF. Nike did not design or release these shoes, and we do not endorse them,” Nike said in a statement to The New York Times.
MSCHF also confirmed that the shoes were not in any way associated with Nike.
Speaking on the real human blood, an MSCHF spokesperson said that blood was donated by members of the collective adding that “we love to sacrifice for our art.” The blood will be mixed into the red ink found on the bubble sole of the shoe.
