Manchester United have sacked manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Manchester United has reportedly sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the club manager after humiliating 4-1 loss to Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday.

“Manchester United announces that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has left his role as Manager,” the club said in a statement.

“Ole will always be a legend at Manchester United and it is with regret that we have reached this difficult decision. While the past few weeks have been disappointing, they should not obscure all the work he has done over the past three years to rebuild the foundations for long-term success.”

Solskjaer has been walking on thin ice ever since Manchester United suffered a humiliating 5-0 defeat to fierce-rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford.

However, defeats to Manchester City and Watford sealed the fate for the 48-year-old Norwegian.

Solskjaer was initially appointed to the role in December 2018 on a caretaker basis following the sacking of Jose Mourinho.

But having won 14 of his first 19 games in charge, Solskjaer signed a three-year contract to take over on a permanent basis in March 2019.

He led United to third and then second-placed league finishes in his two full seasons in charge.

Given the fact that we’re halfway through the 2021-22 season, it’s going to be difficult for Manchester United to find a permanent manager. However, according Fabrizio Romano tweet, Manchester United announce that Michael Carrick will now take charge of the team for forthcoming games, while the look to appoint an interim manager to the end of the season.
