Several persons were wounded in a collision between a passenger train and a BRT bus in Ikeja, Lagos.
The accident occurred at 7 a.m. on Thursday, March 2, 2023.
According to eyewitnesses, the train crush into the bus carrying Lagos State Government employees as it crossed the line to connect Ikeja GRA.
The railway is said to have pulled the bus from Shogunle to Ikeja’s PWD area.
Many people were alleged to have been injured in the crash.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the incident stating that the bus was conveying workers from the Lagos State Government to the office.
“Report confirmed there are casualties and effort is on to rescue victims to the nearest hospital,” LASTMA said.
Officials are on the scene to “do the needful,” the agency added.
According to Ibrahim Farinloye, a spokesperson for the National Emergency Management Agency in Lagos, two female state government employees died in the tragedy.
“The state government staff bus was trying to cross the PWD/Sogunle rail crossing while the train coming into Lagos from Abeokuta trapped the bus on its rail,” he said.
