One month after the alleged killing of peaceful protesters at Lekki Toll gate Lagos, Reality tv star Nengi Rebecca Hampson took to Twitter to sympathize with the families of the victims.
On the 20th of October 2020, a crowd of young Nigerians trooped out in numbers protesting against the inhumane treatment meted out to them by a section of the Nigerian police force known as Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS). The protesters converged at the Lekki Toll gate irrespective of the warnings by the state government to cease all protests. The movement turned bloody as the Nigerian Military allegedly arrived at the scene, turned off the lights at the area, and treasonously opened fire on the unarmed protesters who were bearing the National flag.
Nengi blamed the government for the shootings, citing the reason as “political correctness”. She exonerated the actions of the youths as expressing their civic rights over their welfare, but instead their demands were met with extreme rebuffs by the concerned authorities who chose to silence them instead of listening. Nengi explained that the Lekki Toll gate incident won’t be forgotten in a hurry, and condoled with the families of the protesters who lost their lives at the scene.
