The number of people infected with the novel coronavirus is nearing 40,000 in Nigeria as 438 new cases were recorded in the last 24 hours, which took the overall tally to 39,977.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Saturday, July 25, announced the new cases in its daily updates on coronavirus outbreak in Nigeria, that the new cases were recorded in 23 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
Continuing its lead as the worst-hit COVID state in the country, Lagos has reported 123 new cases followed by Kaduna and Rivers with 50,40 cases respectively.
The health agency also announces Adamawa (25), Oyo State (20), Nasarawa State (16), Osun (15), Enugu State (15), FCT (14), Ekiti (13), Ondo State (13), Ebonyi (11), Katsina State (10), Abia (9), Delta (8), Kwara (4), Ogun (3), Cross River (3), Kano State (3), Bauchi State (3), Yobe (2), Sokoto State (1) and Niger (1).
16,948 patients were discharged after recovering from the disease and 856 deaths have been recorded since the outbreak was first reported in the country.
