Darwin Nunez was sent off in his first Premier League start for Liverpool, who came back to draw 1-1 with Crystal Palace on Monday night.
Nunez also put the home supporters into a frenzy after being picked out by Trent Alexander-Arnold at the far post, but his effort went over the crossbar.
The Reds continued to have opportunities, and Alexander-Arnold did well to find Salah, who missed the post with a first-time attempt as Palace was unable to stop the home team’s domination.
However, in minute 32, Wilfried Zaha calmly slid past Alisson Becker after Eberechi Eze had sent the Ivory Coast international through on goal.
On the verge of the break, Liverpool came dangerously close to drawing even when Elliot found Nunez, who took one touch before hitting the post as Palace cleared their lines.
When Nunez was given an early shower in the 58th minute after earning a straight red card for headbutting Joachim Andersen, the Reds’ task became more difficult.
Despite the red card, Liverpool equalized two minutes later when Luis Diaz evaded several defenders and sent the ball from a distance into the far corner.
In the closing ten minutes, both teams had opportunities to take the lead. Zaha hit the crossbar with the goal at his mercy, and Salah’s effort at the other end came inches from hitting the post.
In the end, neither team was able to score the match-winning goal in the time left, resulting in Liverpool failing for the second consecutive game while Palace earned their first point of the year.
