Orlando Julius, Nigeria’s Renowned Saxophonist, Highlife Musician is Died



Veteran Nigerian Highlife musician Orlando Julius Olusanya Ekemode, popularly known as Orlando Julius, has passed away.

Julius died in the early hours of Friday, according to Bimbo Esho, MD of Evergreen Music Company, who broke the news.

Esho, said in a Facebook post that she got the information from the musician’s wife, Lady Latoya.

“Bimbo Daddy has passed on’. This was the message I stumbled on waking up at exactly 3 am to peruse my WhatsApp page.. It was a message sent into me by Orlando Julius’s beautiful and supportive wife Lady Latoya,” she wrote.

“We shall miss one of Nigeria’s fathers of Afro/Highlife Music, a gentleman and a fine Saxophonist.

“May daddy Orlando Julius soul journey well. To the entire Ekemode family may God give you the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss.”

Julius was born in the Ekiti state town of Ikole in 1943. As a kid, he became interested in music and as a member of his school’s band, he astounded many.

Julius was an early Afrobeats pioneer who had multiple hit songs over his long career, including ‘A Dara,’ ‘Jagur Nana’, ‘Ololufe,’ ‘too mention a few’.
