Owo Church Attack: Dozens Killed in Catholic church Mass Shooting



Unknown gunmen opened fire on Catholic worshippers on Sunday, June 5, and many were left dead and others fatally wounded at a church in Owo, Ondo State.

Although details of the unfortunate incident are still sketchy, it was gathered that the mass shooting occurred during a service at st. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Owo.

Multi media outlets are reporting that no fewer than 50 corpses have been moved out of the church with many casualties lying at the Federal Medical Center, Owo, for medical attention.

According to a source, gunmen stormed the church during service and opened fire on the congregation. The congregation was caught off guard. Residents in the area fled for safety as a result of the incident.

The governor of Ondo, who expressed sadness, described the attack as vile and satanic. He described it as a calculated attack on the Owo Kingdom’s peace-loving people, who have enjoyed relative peace over the years.

On his Twitter account, Rotimi Akeredolu said: “This is an unexpected development. I am shocked to say the least. Nevertheless, We shall commit every available resource to hunt down these assailants and make them pay. We shall never bow to the machinations of heartless elements in our resolves to rid our state of criminals.”
