The Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Mr. Abba Kyari, has died more than two weeks after he tested positive for COVID-19.
Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, broke the news of Mr. Kyari’s death on Twitter, on Friday night but did not go into details
He tweeted, “Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari, passes on. May God rest his soul. Amen. Funeral arrangements to be announced soon”.
“The deceased had tested positive to the ravaging COVID-19 and had been receiving treatment. But he died on Friday, April 17, 2020. May God accepts his soul,” Adesina said on a Facebook post.
Another of the President’s aid, Bashir Ahmad, Personal Assistant on New Media to President Muhammadu Buhari confirmed the passing of the former Chief of Staff.
“Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari, has died. May Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him the highest rank of Jannah. Allah ya jikan sa,” Bashir tweet.
News that Mr. Kyari had tested positive for COVID-19 first broke on March 24, about 10 days after he returned from a trip to Germany during which he met with officials of Siemens in Munich on Nigeria’s electricity expansion program.
