La Liga title holders Real Madrid is seemingly about to end their hopes of lifting the UEFA champions league trophy for the 13th time. The Spanish giant’s poor run in the UCL keeps them on the 3rd position in the league groups table with only a little hope of scaling through.
Real Madrid started out their UCL campaign against Shakhtar Donesk at home, losing 2:3 to the visitors, trailing at the bottom of the table following a draw between group mates Inter Milan and Borrusia Monchengladbach.
The positions remained static on the second matchday with all teams snatching just a point from the game. Then fortune smiled on the Spanish club as they decimated Inter Milan to clinch 3 points, moving a step higher in the table. Then Real Madrid beat Inter again on the return leg to move above to second position, with Borrusia Monchengladbach leading the table with 8 points.
The fifth leg saw Real Madrid lose against Shakhtar Donesk thereby relinquishing their spot in the group league table with points levelled. Luckily for Zinedine’s men, Inter Milan defeated Borrusia Monchengladbach slowing down their qualification to the next stage.
Real Madrid just have to beat Borrusia Monchengladbach on December 9th while equally hoping for a bad result for Shakhtar Donesk. A draw or win from Shakhtar could spell doom for the Spaniards which could see them continue their European outings in the Europa League. Losing their next game could equally send them back to the domestic league if Inter wins as well.
