It’s finally here: a new trailer for the long-awaited Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon has been released.
The series is set 200 years before the events of the original series, which became HBO’s biggest hit ever and the most Emmy-winning drama of all time.
It is based on the novel of the same name by author George R.R. Martin, and it was created by Ryan Condal (Colony) and Miguel Sapochnik, who both served as co-creators and showrunners (Finch).
Dragon stars Paddy Considine (Peaky Blinders), Olivia Cooke (Ready Player One), Emma D’Arcy (Wanderlust), and Matt Smith (Doctor Who) as King Viserys Targaryen, Alicent Hightower (Ready Player One), and Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen (Wanderlust).
While HBO officially refers to this as a “teaser trailer,” the cable network already aired an official teaser in October. However, this is a far more in-depth look at the new series.

House of the Dragon which premieres on Aug. 21, is critical for HBO since the network is seeking to rekindle some of the rating magic created by Game of Thrones throughout its run.
From 2011 through 2019, the series was a real sensation, producing more than a billion dollars in income. Given that they are developing other Game of Thrones prequel series, the success of House of the Dragon suggests that audiences may be eager for more.
