With just a few hours left for the crucial US Elections, fears of possible unrest and violence are giving business and property owners in the country, major stress, and anxiety. Taking no chances in case violence spills out into the streets, owners are now busy safeguarding their stores.
All through the weekend, workers were seen across the country boarding up storefronts, business offices, restaurants, banks, hair salons, in New York, Washington D.C. and other major cities. While they are still open for shoppers, stores are all boarded up to ensure there is no room for looting and vandalism that could cause huge losses to these businesses.
In other places, wooden planks to protect shop windows and doors were installed fearing damage to property while others have temporarily shut down. Extra security has been deployed and a beefed-up police presence has been planned across major locations across the country.
‘We anticipate like a lot of New Yorkers that one side or the other may not be happy with the outcome of November 3rd … but more importantly, there are looters and thugs with no political identity who may take advantage of the situation and riot and loot again,’ Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa told WABC-TV.
