Wigan Appoint Kolo Toure As First Team Manager

Wigan Athletic Football Club has announced Kolo Touré’s appointment as the new First Team Manager.

The first team coach for the Foxes, who is 41 years old, has accepted his first management role with the Championship Latics, leaving Brendan Rodgers’ coaching staff after three years.

After agreeing to a three-and-a-half-year deal, Toure quickly put together his own backroom team, which now comprises Ashvir Johal and Kevin Betsy, as well as former City manager Rob Kelly, who has agreed to stay on as an assistant manager.

Toure will now go to Turkey to meet up with his new players, who are there for a midseason training camp before starting their Championship season on Saturday, December 10 against Millwall.

Following an eight-game losing streak, Wigan fired Leam Richardson on November 10, only a week after awarding him a new three-year contract. Since then, the club has been looking for a new manager.

Malachy Brannigan, chief executive of Wigan, said after choosing Toure as his replacement: “We are delighted that Kolo has become the new manager of Wigan Athletic and the board are pleased that he is the man to take us forward.

Wigan currently lie third-from-bottom in the Championship but are only inside the relegation zone on goal difference.
