The Anambra state, Willie Obiano, and Rivers state, Nyesom Wike, governors have imposed curfews in their respective states.

According to reporting by Channels TV, the Anambra state government took the decision following an attack by gunmen in some affected communities.

The Secretary to Anambra state government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu, says the curfew which started on Monday, 26th April 2021, is expected to last between 7 pm to 6 am daily.

He urged the people of Anambra state and people living in the listed communities to obey the curfew order, as the security personnel is on strict orders to enforce the curfew.

The affected communities are Igbariam, Aguleri, Umueri, Nteje, Awkuzu, and Umunya.

Also speaking on state broadcast on Tuesday, April 27, Governor Wike said that the curfew would take effect from Wednesday, April 28, by 8 pm.

He said: “The Government of Rivers State has decided to restrict night movements into and out of the State from the land borders of the State.

“Consequently, a night curfew is hereby imposed and no person or vehicle is allowed into and out of Rivers State from 8.00 p.m. to 6.00 a.m. from tomorrow (Wednesday) 28 April 2021 until further notice.”

“We wish to advise that those who have any legitimate need or reason to come into or go out of the State must do so before 8.00 pm when the curfew shall come into force daily.”
