With 553 COVID-19 Cases in Last 24 Hours, Nigeria’s Tally closed to 10,000; Death Toll Nears 300

Nigeria tally of coronavirus inches away to 10,000-mark after the country reported nearly 600 cases– 554 to be specific and 12 fatalities on Saturday. This is said to be the biggest single-day spike in #COVID19 cases and deaths so far.

On the daily NCDC update, Lagos still remained the worst hit with a total of 378 new cases, the highest spike in a single day since the outbreak, followed by the federal capital territory (FCT) which comes as the second-worst hit in the country with 52 new cases recorded on Saturday.

Other states which NCDC mentions on its daily update includes Delta with 23, Edo with 22, followed by Rivers and Ogun state with 14,13 new cases respectively.

Twelve new cases were also recorded in Kaduna, nine in Kano, seven in Borno, six in Katsina, five each in Jigawa and Oyo while Yobe and Plateau State recorded 3 each followed by Osun with one new case.

While the country has 6726 active cases, 2856 persons have recovered and have been discharged. The death toll due to the dreaded virus has reached 273 including 12 death that was recorded on Saturday.
