Yemi Alade warns against reopening of schools in the country

Nigerian female singer Yemi Alade took to her twitter page to discourage the attempt by ASUU and the federal government to reopen all schools and universities in Nigeria.

ASUU went on strike in April 2020 leading to the shutting down of Universities in Nigeria shortly before the outbreak of the global pandemic coronavirus. The schools received further instructions from the FG to remain closed to avoid the spread of the virus. Fresh reports states that schools are to resume by January 2021 with full adherence to covid-19 safety precautions.

Yemi Alade seems to have differing opinions on the decision to resume schools. The project fame winner opined that the new strain of coronavirus cases across the country is enough reason for large gatherings to be suspended, which includes the universities. She said that the virus would be difficult to contain except the provision of free tests, sanitizers, face masks etc for every returning student.

Furthermore, Yemi Alade argued that the proposed social distancing would not be fully implemented in classes which has over 100 students in attendance, which would lead to more cases of the virus.

I don’t think Universities should open!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There is a new strain for heaven sake! At least offer every returning student free covid tests , sanitisers ,facemasks ,overalls!

How can you practice social distancing in a class of 100 students ! No free covid tests, face masks etc and you are opening Universities in the wake of a new strain! I’m confused.
