Suge Knight Claims Tupac Shakur’s Murder Was an ‘Assassination’

Suge Knight has reignited the mystery surrounding Tupac Shakur’s murder, claiming the rapper’s 1996 killing involved more people than the man currently standing trial.

The former Death Row Records co-founder made the comments during an appearance on TMZ Live as jury selection continued in the murder trial of Duane “Keffe D” Davis in Las Vegas.

Knight, who was driving the BMW when Tupac was shot, described the killing as an “assassination” and rejected the long-standing narrative that the attack was simply connected to a dispute involving a chain or gang colours.

According to Knight, Davis may know more about what happened and could potentially reveal information about other people allegedly involved in the killing.

Knight also questioned Davis’ previous public statements about the case, pointing to his memoir and podcast appearances. Davis has previously acknowledged providing the gun used in the shooting, while prosecutors allege he helped orchestrate the attack but did not fire the weapon himself.

Davis, 63, has pleaded not guilty to the murder charge. He is the only person ever charged in connection with Tupac’s September 1996 killing, which remained unsolved for nearly three decades. Jury selection began in Las Vegas on August 10, 2026.

Tupac was shot multiple times on September 7, 1996, while travelling with Knight near the Las Vegas Strip. He died six days later at the age of 25.

Knight survived the attack and has remained one of the most prominent figures connected to the case.

Despite his claims, Knight has not publicly identified the other people he believes were involved. His latest comments therefore add another layer to a case that has generated theories and speculation for almost 30 years.

Knight also said he wants Davis to receive a fair trial and insisted he is not seeking revenge.

The trial could become a major moment in the long-running investigation, particularly if prosecutors or the defence introduce new evidence about what happened on the night Tupac was killed.
