Adeleke Wins 19 LGAs as Oyebamiji Secures 11 in Osun Election

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has won 19 of the 30 local government areas in the state’s governorship election.

Adeleke, who contested under the Accord Party, defeated his closest rival, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Bola Oyebamiji, who won 11 LGAs.

The results were announced during the collation of results from the 30 local government areas by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Adeleke’s performance across the LGAs gave him a clear advantage over Oyebamiji, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate Najeem Salaam also contested the election.

INEC later declared Adeleke the winner of the election after the final results were collated in Osogbo, the state capital.

The Returning Officer, Professor Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, formally announced Adeleke as the winner on Sunday morning.

The victory gives Adeleke another term as governor of Osun State after he previously won the 2022 governorship election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.

His latest victory comes after he defected from the PDP and secured the Accord Party ticket ahead of the 2026 election.

Oyebamiji, meanwhile, had campaigned heavily on the platform of the APC, with the party seeking to regain control of the state.

The election was closely watched as one of the major political contests ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
