X Ends Revenue Sharing, Launches New Creator Rewards Program

Microblogging platform X, formerly known as Twitter, is ending its existing revenue sharing programme and replacing it with a new system designed to reward creators for original content.

The platform announced the change on Friday through the X Creators Team, saying the new Original Content Rewards Program will focus on creators whose posts generate meaningful conversations on X.

Under the new programme, creators are expected to earn rewards based on the value and impact of the original content they contribute to the platform.

X said the move is part of its broader effort to strengthen the creator ecosystem and encourage users to produce more original material rather than relying heavily on reposted or recycled content.

The company has increasingly positioned creators at the centre of its strategy as it competes with platforms such as TikTok, Instagram and YouTube for users and online engagement.

X previously introduced its revenue sharing programme as a way for eligible creators to earn money from advertising displayed alongside replies to their posts.

The programme became one of the platform’s major incentives for creators, with some users reporting significant payouts based on the engagement their posts generated.

The shift to an Original Content Rewards Program could therefore change how creators earn money from their activity on X.

However, X has not yet disclosed all the details of the new programme, including its eligibility requirements, payment structure and the exact criteria that will determine how much creators receive.

The announcement is expected to generate interest among creators who rely on X as a source of income and those looking for alternative ways to monetise their audiences.

More details about the new rewards system are expected from X as the company prepares to transition creators away from the existing revenue sharing programme.
