Liverpool are supposedly ahead of Juventus in their chase of a Serie A player to boost their midfield this summer.
With Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita, and James Milner all due to leave in the summer, Jurgen Klopp’s team is already looking for replacements.
According to Sportwitness, Liverpool have ‘already taken the first steps’ toward signing Teun Koopmeiners during the summer transfer window.
The report also said that Juventus reportedly wants to sign him as well, but they are unable to now compete with Liverpool financially.
Juventus, like Liverpool, is in need of a midfield remake ahead of next season, but they must first straighten out their finances.
If the deal goes through, Koopmeiner will bring a different element to Klopp’s team, which has often been missing out on goal threats from their midfielder this season.
The midfielder is under contract with Atalanta until the summer of 2025, with the club having the option to extend his contract by another year.
His current market value is estimated to be over £35 million. The 25-year-old can play a multitude of positions and would benefit this Liverpool team.
This season, he has scored seven league goals, which is more than any midfielder for Liverpool has done. The Dutch midfielder has also provided three assists.
