Ex-HoS, Oronsaye is cleared by the court of an alleged 190 million fraud

Stephen Oronsaye, a former Head of Service (HoS) of the Federation, was cleared of the 190 million fraud allegation brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) by a Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday.

In a ruling, Justice Inyang Ekwo ruled that there was insufficient evidence presented by the prosecution to support Oronsaye’s conviction.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Mr Oronsaye was charged with 49 counts alongside Osarenkhoe Afe, Managing Director of Fedrick Hamilton Global Services Limited.

But the charges were later amended and reduced to 22 counts after the anti-graft commission separated the parts involving a former head of the Presidential Pension Task Force, Abdulrasheed Maina, who was then at large.

Maina was later charged separately by the EFCC and was subsequently convicted and sentenced to eight years imprisonment in November 2021.

The EFCC added three companies in the complaint it filed against Oronsaye: Cluster Logistic Limited, Kangolo Dynamic Cleaning Limited, and Drew Investment & Construction Company Limited.

The EFCC said that between 2010 and 2011, the defendants had used the businesses to siphon public monies through procurement fraud.
