Billionaire rapper and music icon Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter has been named in a refiled lawsuit alleging misconduct dating back to 2000. The suit, originally filed in October, initially named Sean “Diddy” Combs as the sole defendant. On Sunday, the plaintiff, identified only as “Jane Doe,” amended the lawsuit to include Carter, accusing him of inappropriate behavior at an after-party following the MTV Video Music Awards.
The Allegations Against Jay-Z
According to the lawsuit, Jane Doe claims she was invited to the party by a driver who allegedly worked for Combs. Upon arriving at a private residence, she says she was required to sign a nondisclosure agreement and witnessed a party atmosphere involving high-profile individuals.
The plaintiff alleges that after consuming a drink, she began to feel unwell and retreated to a room to rest. It was in this context that she claims Carter and Combs entered the room and engaged in inappropriate behavior. She alleges she managed to leave the party and sought help soon after.
Jay-Z’s Strong Denial
Carter has vehemently denied the accusations, calling them “idiotic” and devoid of merit. In a detailed statement, he said, “These allegations are so heinous in nature that I implore you to file a criminal complaint, not a civil one! Whoever would commit such a crime against a minor should be locked away, would you not agree?”
Carter said that the claims are damaging not only to him but also to his family. “My wife and I now have to sit our children down and explain the cruelty and greed of people. I mourn yet another loss of innocence,” he added.
Carter also expressed frustration at being targeted by what he described as baseless allegations designed to extract financial gain from his celebrity status. “I’m not from your world. I’m a young man who made it out of the projects of Brooklyn. We don’t play these types of games. We have very strict codes and honor. We protect children,” he said.
