The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has clarified reports about an alleged airspace violation in Burkina Faso, saying a C-130 aircraft made a precautionary landing in line with safety protocols.
Officials confirmed that all personnel on board, who landed in Bobo-Dioulasso, are safe and receiving warm treatment from Burkinabe authorities.
The aircraft was on a ferry mission to Portugal when a technical concern arose shortly after takeoff from Lagos on 8 December 2025. Following standard aviation procedures, the crew diverted to the nearest airfield to ensure safety.
Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, NAF Director of Public Relations, said, “The crew acted in accordance with international safety and operational standards. Plans are underway to resume the mission as scheduled.”
Earlier reports from Burkina Faso suggested the Nigerian aircraft, carrying 11 soldiers, was forced to land after entering its airspace without authorization, according to the state news agency Agence d’Information du Burkina.
The Nigerian Air Force reassured the public that it remains committed to strict safety measures while carrying out its operational duties.
