AMD’s next-gen Threadripper PRO 9000 series is shaping up to be a powerful workstation chip, but if you were hoping for a boost in core counts, you might be disappointed. A new leak from an NBD shipping manifest has revealed key details about these CPUs, confirming that AMD is sticking with similar core configurations as its predecessors.
Zen 5 Power, Same Core Counts
While AMD has already rolled out its Zen 5-based Ryzen 9000 series for mainstream desktops, the high-end Threadripper 9000 lineup is still under wraps. Despite no official announcement, leaks are trickling in, and thanks to user @Olrak29_ (whose tweet has since been deleted), we now have a first look at two upcoming SKUs.
The leaked models include:
- Threadripper PRO 9965WX – 24 cores, 48 threads
- Threadripper PRO 9975WX – 32 cores, 64 threads
Both chips support hyperthreading, just like their predecessors, meaning there’s no change in core or thread counts.

What Else Do We Know?
Much like the previous Threadripper 7000 series, these new chips will stick to a 350W TDP, regardless of core count. Even AMD’s top-tier 96-core model in the previous generation had the same power rating, so this consistency isn’t surprising.
The Threadripper PRO 9995WX is expected to be the real monster of the lineup, featuring 96 cores and 192 threads, making it the flagship model. Meanwhile, a 64-core Threadripper PRO 9985WX is also likely in the works.
The main upgrades for the Threadripper PRO 9000 series come from Zen 5’s improved efficiency and higher clock speeds (though exact speeds haven’t been leaked yet). The CPUs will use the SP6 socket, just like the previous generation, and move to a more efficient 4nm process node, compared to the 5nm used in the Threadripper 7000 series.
When Will It Launch?
AMD hasn’t officially announced the Threadripper 9000 series yet, but with leaks surfacing, a release could be just around the corner. If history is any guide, we may see these chips land later this year.
