Michael Gargiulo, nicknamed ‘Hollywood Ripper’ was on Friday sentenced to death for gruesome killings of two women in California, including Ashley Elrin an acquaintance of Ashton Kutcher.
On the night of her murder, she was supposed to go on a date with the actor. During the trial, Kutcher had told the court he had arrived late to come. pick her up from her Hollywood home, but no one had opened the door.
However, When he looked inside he saw bloodstains that he thought were spilled wine. Ms. Ellerin was found with 47 stab wounds by her roommate.
Gargiulo killed his second victim, Maria Bruno, in 2005, a mother of four, in her home in El Monte, east of Los Angeles, in 2005. Bruno’s breasts were cut off and her implants were removed.
Gargiulo was found guilty of the charges in August 2019 by a California jury, but procedural delays and the coronavirus pandemic pushed back sentencing, The Independent reported.
He was found guilty of the attempted murder in 2008 of Michelle Murphy, who fought him off in her Santa Monica apartment, forcing him to flee however leaving a trail of blood that led to his eventual arrests for the other two killings. Murphy was the key witness at the trial.
“To this day, spending the night alone creates a world of fear in me,” Murphy said in court before the sentencing.
She cried as she talked about meeting the families of the two women who didn’t survive their attacks.
“How is it fair that one person’s actions can destroy the lives of so many?” she said.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Larry P. Fidler handed down the sentence.
“Everywhere that Mr. Gargiulo went, death and destruction followed him,’ Fidler said during the hearing.
Gargiulo is also on trial for the murder of Tricia Pacaccio in Illinois his Illinois hometown, for the murder he allegedly committed in 1993.
