Shortly after Nigerian musical icon Ayo Balogun popularly recognized with his stage name Wizkid addressed the president of the federal republic of Nigerian Muhammadu Buhari over the recent killings of the youth by security agents, the president’s aide Lauretta Onochie came under fire for her comments on Starboy.
Lauretta Onochie sternly rebuked Wizkid for daring to address the president as “old man” in a tweet. In her own words, she declared that it was “disrespectful” to address anyone as old. Wizkid’s choice of words in accosting the president is a behavior which she termed as “Ignorance, insensitivity, and childishness”. Lauretta therefore ignoring the issues that led to Wizkid’s outburst on president Buhari chose to vent her spleen on the way and manner the artiste bared it all out, leading to she referring to Wizkid as dumb. It appears she was more interested in elderly recognition and respects accordingly.
Quote:
“Its not disrespectful to call anyone old. Its the way and manner Ayo Balogun addressed the President that leaves a sour taste in the mouth.
He exhibited crass ignorance, insensitivity and childishness.
But hey, he’s a #DumbkidNotWhizKid
When he grows up, he might learn respect”
However, Wizkid sprang to his defence reiterating that he wasn’t wrong in referring to the president as an old man. Citing his (President Buhari’s) age as an instance. The Starboy maintained that someone who has lived up to 77 years would definitely never use the word “young” in the same sentence with him. Wizkid accused Lauretta of being insensitive to the killings of young people by members of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) and Police force. He reminded her of her motherhood and how she fails to sympathize with women whose children were carelessly gunned down. And finally, the iconic music legend insisted that his conduct and method of addressing the president has nothing to do with his clamor for a better government.
Quote:
“lol a 77 year old man is not young ma…
You are a woman and a mother and kids are getting killed by police/sars and this is all you have to say?
Shame on you!!! shame on you!!
I am a father and age has nothing to do with demanding for a better governance in my country!!”
