Aston Villa has fired Former Liverpool star Steven Gerrard as a result of the team’s 3-0 loss against Fulham on Thursday night.
The former Liverpool captain announced his departure from the club with “immediate effect” following the Villas’ most latest Premier League defeat.
According to a statement on the team’s official website, “Aston Villa Football Club can confirm that head coach Steven Gerrard has left the club with immediate effect.”
“We would like to thank Steven for his hard work and commitment and wish him well for the future.”
In the bleachers after Villa’s performance against Fulham, angry fans yelled for his dismissal loudly before the club made the announcement following their sixth league loss of the season.
Following his hiring in November last year, excitement and positivity surrounds Gerrard’s appointment, as the team showed potential by playing an appealing style of football bolstered by new recruits such as Philippe Coutinho and Lucas Digne.
After finishing 14th in the Premier League last season, Villa were expected to progress, but instead find themselves one spot above the relegation zone after 11 games.
Gerrard had talked to the media before of Villa’s decision, stating that he would not resign on his own.
