Manchester City defeated defending champions Real Madrid 4-0 on Wednesday night to book their place in the UEFA Champions League final.
Madrid welcomed back Eder Militao from suspension, while City used the same lineup that started the first leg last week.
The Citizens got out to a flying start and nearly took the lead from Erling Haaland’s head after Jack Grealish’s cross, but Thibaut Courtois saved with a stunning one-hand save.
However, Pep Guardiola’s team did grab the lead midway through the opening period when Kevin De Bruyne found Portuguese international Bernardo Silva open and the latter finished with one touch.
Around the 35th minute, Los Blancos woke up and had a great opportunity to tie the score with a thunderous shot from outside the box by Toni Kroos following a corner, but Ederson Moraes tip-toed the crossbar.
Two minutes later, Silva headed into the bottom corner as City seized total control thanks to a hurried clearance off Militao and other factors.
David Alaba’s 30-yard free kick gave the defending champions a chance to cut the lead five minutes before halftime, but Ederson deflected it for a corner.
Luka Modric was replaced by Antonio Rudiger, who had a standout performance in the first leg, as Los Blancos made a substitute late in the game.
Ilkay Gundogan connected with Haaland outside the area and saw the forward run free, but Courtois parried against the woodwork.
Militao guided a pin-point header from Manuel Akanji into his own net after a free-kick from City.
Los Blancos were ripped apart once more as the hosts scored a fourth goal in added time when substitute Julian Alvarez sneaked in behind the defense and tucked into the bottom corner to secure their place in the final.
